A bit about me
Gavins Video Testimonial
During an interview Gavin had the following to say:
Q. "During the ten week YSS intervention with myself did you consciously try to change your running style?"
A. “No but you made me aware of how awkward I looked whilst running, when you showed me the film."
Q "What about on the mat, did anything make you change your running style?"
A. "Yes, getting that feel for where my foot should be and getting that stronger grip on the floor."
Q. "How did that transfer from the mat into the running?"
A. “I think that both being made aware and getting that feel from putting my foot on ground correctly the in the training, made me think more about that whilst I was running. After the first few sessions with you I became much more aware of my foot placement and was consciously thinking about it, but over time it became an unconscious reflex. When I started my last 5 k race in Vancouver I was consciously preparing my self by thinking about my breathing and foot placement before the race, I was surprised that my improved technique made the run feel so much easier and was quite surprised to come 8th out of 500 runners.”
Q. "Were you surprised by the change?"
A.”Yes before I was just going out and running, now I consciously prepare with regard to how I’m going to breath and move.”
Q. "In the first film when your foot strikes the ground it hits to the front outside edge of the foot. In the second film it hits with a heel strike. Did you consciously try to do this and if so why?"
A. “Well I tried to get the balance right in my feet when they landed and the heel is the stable way to do this, which we practiced in the sessions when doing some of the feet exercises. And it made me feel stronger in my strides in doing so.”
Q. "When did we practice heel strike specifically or was it just during postures, if so which ones, because I wasn’t specifically teaching you to heel strike, - or was that what you thinking about, but I didn’t know?"
A. "I think it was just when we were getting my feet straighter and in the drills. I had to lock my feet down to support my body weight etc. And from there I could generate more power and that went into my strides."
Q. "How do you feel physically after a run compared to how you felt pre YSS?"
A. "I just feel so much stronger and my recovery running rate is stronger and I’m not feeling the impact so much through my body and also I’m recovering faster."
